Lesley Van Staveren

Lesley is the founder of The Social Effect. She has 3 young children with her husband Colin and together they run Cairns based business – FNQ Plastics.

She has a strong connection to the environment and heads up a not for profit organization called the Committee For Waste Reduction.

Lesley is an individual with a strong belief that you create your own destiny by making the right choices, having high self-worth and giving back to others. The beauty in life is through raising others up and enabling those around you to do better.

She came to a point in her life where she realized that there was one common factor in every negative experience, that is her ability to bounce back and keep learning and growing no matter what.

She understands what it takes to be able to use every single difficulty and learn from it and use it to enable others to do the same.

This all comes from self-worth and resilience. You still experience the pain that life has the tendency to throw at us every so often.

As humans we have the capacity to grasp the light and the dark of who we are but the key is the realization that you need the dark to see the light. It is like night and day you cannot truly understand and learn from one without the other. We are not perfect. We experience challenges, grief and hardship. What is perfect is developing the ability to accept this in ourselves and others, to remove judgement and comparison.

She has 20 years experience in sales, management in industries including telecommunications, recruitment and plastics. She continually explores methods of self-improvement to be able to deliver that to others.

Lesley now dedicates her time to her family unit and their business. This combined with being a speaker and presenter enables her to fulfill her ultimate purpose which is making a diffence.
